Stone at the Corner
Talk 1
There’s strong Bible support for what seems to be, on the face of it, an obvious idea: a cornerstone was the stone at the corner. But things are rarely that simple. And this is no exception. Bible experts suggest there’re two ideas that can satisfy the Bible use of the term ‘cornerstone’.
Talk 2
Have you ever felt discouraged by the amount of work still left to be done in order to complete some project? When not everyone agrees with what you’re doing, that makes the going even tougher. Opposition, setbacks, delays - it’s enough to make anyone but the most determined among us give up.
Talk 3
Rejection is a difficult thing to handle. A job application is turned down; a suggestion we put forward is laughed at and treated with contempt; someone discovers their biological parents gave them up for adoption; worst of all, a partner walks out and leaves us on our own. There’s tremendous pain associated with rejection. Counsellors tell us that a lot of anti-social behaviour has its roots in coping with the pain of rejection.
Talk 4
The more you look into it, the more you realize that this role of cornerstones - in communicating valued, treasured information to subsequent generations - does indeed seem to have been a very old tradition. From earliest recorded times, people have made use of cornerstones for data storage.
