Overview
If you’re thinking of joining us for the first time for our Sunday morning service, we thought it might be helpful to explain what happens, so that you know what to expect!
The simple but beautiful ceremony we enjoy is something the Lord Jesus asked His followers to do to remember Him after He returned to Heaven. He is a lovely person and our remembering leads naturally to worship.
When the meeting begins, we tend to sit quietly, often with eyes closed or heads bowed to help us concentrate. You are welcome as our guest, so do whatever is comfortable for you.
Order of Service
THANKS FOR THE BREAD AND WINE
The service starts at 1030. The bread that will be broken symbolises His body which was broken on the cross and the wine that is poured out represents the pouring out of His blood as He died there. It is meaningful to us because we believe that He was dying to take the punishment for all the wrong things we have done. By the way, please don’t be offended that only those who already belong to the church take the bread and wine. It doesn’t reflect any opinion of you! It’s just that this is how the churches in the Bible observed the service and we try to stick as closely to their example as we can.
HYMNS AND THANKSGIVING
Those in the church express their gratitude to God by inviting the congregation to sing hymns, meditating silently and putting their thanks into their own words. You’ll notice this is different to our prayer meeting. Here we don’t ask God for anything – we just thank Him for giving us His Son.
