Frequently asked questions

You will see that the answer reflects our belief that the Bible is the word of God.

Q.3 Why are there so many versions of the Bible?

Answer:

God caused the Bible to be written down over many centuries by different writers, the Old Testament originally in Hebrew and Aramaic, and the New Testament in Greek. Translators were so impressed by the importance of the Bible for all the people of the world that they made versions of it in many languages, and they continue to do this for the remaining languages of the world in which it has not yet appeared in writing. In English there are various versions available today, because translators realised that there are many ways to represent in our language what the original writers were saying, and they wanted to be sure that it would be well understood by all kinds of people. We should not

be anxious that there are so many versions. The main message ought to be the same. God is so great that He makes sure it is possible for all who read the Bible with a good and honest heart to benefit from reading it, and to come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. As centuries go past, a language does gradually change, and scholars have made the effort to have versions in the language current at the time of translation.
